Power Rangers post-credits scene explained

The new Power Rangers film took a page out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and gave the audience a post-credits scene. What was shown?

Image result for power rangersThe Power Rangers film was finally released last week. To our surprise, we really enjoyed many aspects of the film and we're excited about future installments. Based on the source material, there's plenty of things they can do moving forward. We have a pretty good idea of what story they're going to tell next, though. If you stayed long enough, then you know there was a post credits scene.
Before we get into that, this post will obviously contain spoilers. Then again, it says it all in the title, so if you're reading this, we're assuming you want to know.
Once again, here's your spoiler warning.
Shortly after the first batch of credits roll, we see Jason, Kimberly, and Billy return to detention. Zack and Trini have joined the fray, which means they did something that got them into trouble. The teacher walks in and begins to take attendance.
Suddenly, you hear him call out a very familiar name, that being Tommy Oliver. Yes, that's right. Tommy will be in the next Power Rangers film. The problem is, we don't know who will be playing him exactly. As the teacher is calling his name, the screen shifts to a desk with a green jacket, but no one is sitting there.
If you grew up watching the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series, then you know exactly who Tommy is. Jason David Frank portrayed the character and eventually became the face of the franchise. When you think of a popular character from the series, almost everybody thinks of Tommy.
JDF made his debut as the character in "Green with Evil," a five-part series. He catches the eye of Rita Repulsa and forces him to become her servant. She grants him the Dragon Power coin, which gives him the iconic Green Ranger suit. With this coin, he is stronger than the rest of the Power Rangers and his main task is to destroy them.
Long story short, the rangers are able to save him from Rita and eventually, he becomes an essential member of the team. Later on, he gives up the Green Ranger suit in exchange for the White Ranger suit.
We aren't sure what direction they'll decide to take for the sequel. It's possible that it will be similar to this, though. Rita is currently in space, so she'll have to make her way back to Earth. Then, she'll get ahold of Tommy and grant him the coin, forcing him to fight by her side.
Some story elements changed in this film compared to the original. It's going to be interesting to see how they do all of this. We hope they cast a great actor, the same way they did with the rest of the rangers.
