Nigeria’s VP assures oil producing communities of better days ahead

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has assured oil producing communities and otherstakeholders in the Niger Delta region of the country that better days are ahead.

He said that the new frame work adopted and being implemented by the federal government includes direct assessment and interaction with the host communities.

The purpose according to him is to ensure that their long time neglected concerns are addressed.

TVC News correspondent Nnamdi Ofonye reports that the compliance institute of Nigeria says a  new dawn has come in the fight against money laundering and financing terrorism.

This was revealed during the examining and induction of new designates and associates, officers present noted that  training is vital to the emergence of compliance officers who will serve as  a watchdog in the  financial institutions across the country.

According to them, the banking industry  has a key role to play if money laundering and other vices are to be curbed.

They also added  that the institute will be seeking a charter from the National assembly to enable it play its regulatory role more effectively .

This event is in continuation of the direct interaction of Vice President Yemi Osibanjo with critical stakeholders and host communities of oil facilities in the Niger Delta.

The people of Asa in Owaza community in Ukwa local Government Area of the state who boast of hosting oil exploration since 1957 are very unhappy over their plights  in the hands of oil companies and the Government.

Even Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu corroborated the stance of his people and called for a review of the amnesty programme.

To VP Osibanjo, the neglect and degradation of oil producing communities is at an alarming stage but he assured them that the present administration is committed to addressing the problem.

Before inaugurating the Abia one stop shop, the Abia Traditional rulers conferred on the Vice President the title of Enyi Oha.
